At Muir Way, we believe in providing the utmost quality, design, and value.
In 1824, the Hudson's Bay Company built Fort Vancouver on the north bank of the Columbia River, naming Chief Factor John McLoughlin to run its fur-trade empire across the entire Pacific Northwest. Under McLoughlin's leadership the fort grew into the largest non-Indigenous settlement on the West Coast, trading pelts for company credit, shipping furs to London, and supplying its own farms and workshops. For thousands of American pioneers arriving at the end of the Oregon Trail, Fort Vancouver was the last stop for provisions — and McLoughlin's generosity toward those settlers, despite company policy, later earned him the title "Father of Oregon." This 1958 map captures the city that grew up around that legacy on the Columbia River, across from Portland.
We georeferenced the original 1958 Vancouver, WA map and applied modern digital elevation data to add true shaded relief to the landscape. The shading is printed flat on the paper — not raised or textured — so it frames and hangs like any fine art print.
Available unframed, or framed in black or walnut.
Note on legibility: text on the original map is small and can be difficult to read given the map's age. In areas where the relief shading is darkest, the underlying labels are not legible. We recommend the largest available size for the best detail.
