At Muir Way, we believe in providing the utmost quality, design, and value.
By 1954, San Francisco was riding the full momentum of its postwar boom — a compact city of hills, fog, and water views, anchored by the Golden Gate Bridge, which had opened less than two decades earlier in 1937 and instantly become one of the most recognized engineering feats in the world. The city's cable cars climbed streets so steep they still surprised first-time visitors, and its natural harbor made it the Pacific Rim's gateway to the rest of the country — a geography that shaped San Francisco into one of the most distinctive cities in America.
We georeferenced the original 1954 survey and added shaded relief using modern digital elevation data, bringing San Francisco's hills, bay, and Golden Gate headlands into convincing three-dimensional depth. The shading is printed flat on the paper — not raised or textured — so it frames like any fine art print.
Clouds are rendered in for a surreal, atmospheric effect — available with or without, so you can choose the look that suits your space.
A note on legibility: text on the original map is small and can be difficult to read given the map's age. In areas where the relief shading is darkest, the underlying labels are not legible. We recommend the largest available size for the best detail.
