At Muir Way, we believe in providing the utmost quality, design, and value.
Santa Ana grew up as the seat of Orange County's famous citrus industry. The Valencia orange, introduced to the region in 1875, became the county's signature crop, and by the late 1940s local groves covered a peak of 77,000 acres — fruit from here helped convince the rest of the country, through a famous 1916 Saturday Evening Post ad campaign, that a glass of orange juice belonged on every breakfast table. By 1959, Santa Ana was also at the center of Orange County's next chapter: the county's population was swelling from under 200,000 in the mid-1940s toward three-quarters of a million by 1960, as postwar families arrived to build the neighborhoods that would make it one of Southern California's great suburban success stories. This map captures Santa Ana's streets and surrounding terrain right at that turning point.
We georeferenced the original 1959 survey and added shaded relief using modern digital elevation data, giving Santa Ana's streets and terrain a vivid sense of depth. It's printed flat on fine art paper — the 3D effect comes entirely from the shading, not any raised surface — so it frames just like any fine art print.
For an added atmospheric touch, this map is available with or without a layer of clouds — purely a style choice, with no effect on the printed detail below.
Please note: text on this map can be difficult to read due to its small original font size and age. In areas where the relief shading covers the text, the underlying lettering is not legible — we recommend the largest available size for the best detail, though some text may still be covered in darker areas.
