Pacific Northwest Regional Hydrological Map

Our series of regional hydrological maps show the Water Resource Regions of the USA which is the first level of classification used by the USGS. Its purpose is to divide the US into smaller hydrologic units which are then subdivided. The 21 major Water Resource Regions contain the drainage area of either a major river or the combined drainage areas of a series of rivers.

Water is literally the lifeblood of our country. If you’re drawn to water, you know that how and where it flows tells the story of a place. The Pacific Northwest Regional contains the drainages that discharge into the Straight of Georgia, Straight of Juan de Fuca, and the Pacific Ocean, along with drainages from the Great Basin that discharge into Oregon. This map shows in fascinating detail how the rivers and streams flow and interconnect, merge and diverge, carrying life to the land. The flow of water also has an inherent aesthetic elegance that our map captures beautifully.

It’s all in the details. Our map depicts every river in the Water Resource Region—even intermittent streams—and every body of water with a diameter greater than .2 miles. For an extra aesthetic touch, we apply a method called the Strahler Stream Order to show the hierarchy of streams as they flow from their source—rivers are shown thicker as they acquire the flow of tributaries. We think it enhances a sense of the interconnectedness of our waterways.

In our Hydrology Series, you’ll not only find your favorite rivers and lakes, but you’ll also be able to trace their origins and outflow and appreciate the beauty of their connections.

We consider our maps to be works of art, so we print and frame them accordingly. We offer two choices of print surfaces: fine-art archival paper and stretched canvas.

Every map is custom printed. We have no inventory. Only when we receive your order do we produce your print on our 12-color giclée printer, using top-quality archival inks that will never fade.

Fine Art Paper - Our archival paper is museum-quality, 100% cotton, acid-free, and certified to last 100 years. This assures sharp details, true colors, and exceptional durability.

Frames (w/ Fine Art Paper) - Our thin hardwood frames are handmade from real Maple or Walnut, not pressed wood with veneer. Fine Art Paper prints will come mounted behind a clear acrylic, with mounting hardware attached to it. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your frame to arrive.

Canvas Gallery Wrap - If you prefer a frameless look, order your map on stretched canvas, which offers a bit more depth and texture. We use archival canvas, gallery-wrapped and varnished, stretched around a 1.5-inch-thick wood frame.

    Great product and frame

I have two other Muir Way prints I ordered without frames and had professionally framed locally. I wish I would have had Muir Way frame them too. The Muir Way frame looks great. If you like cool maps these hit the spot

    Great Product

I bought one of Muir Wood's maps for my sibling who is an avid outdoorsman. The print was very sharp and clear, exactly what I expected. The print was packaged well and arrived in perfect condition. There was a special note, swag, and a donation to the Sierra Club as part of my order. I'm very satisfied with the map I bought and my brother loved it.
