Hydrological Map of North America

44 Reviews
Our incredibly detailed map of North America shows the inherent beauty of the continent's system of waterways and lakes.

The width of the rivers and streams on the map are determined by their Strahler number which defines their size based on the hierarchy of tributaries. Therefore, the thickness of the lines on the map do not represent the actual size of the waterway.  The lakes on the map are representative of their actual shape and size in reference to the map.

Due to limitations of data and the dimensions of the map, it does not include Greenland, Hawaii, part of the Aleutian Islands, and the Caribbean Islands east of Puerto Rico.

We consider our maps to be works of art, so we print and frame them accordingly. We offer two choices of print surfaces: fine-art archival paper and stretched canvas.

Every map is custom printed. We have no inventory. Only when we receive your order do we produce your print on our 12-color giclée printer, using top-quality archival inks that will never fade.

Fine Art Paper - Our archival paper is museum-quality, 100% cotton, acid-free, and certified to last 100 years. This assures sharp details, true colors, and exceptional durability.

Frames (w/ Fine Art Paper) - Our thin hardwood frames are handmade from real Maple or Walnut, not pressed wood with veneer. Fine Art Paper prints will come mounted behind a clear acrylic, with mounting hardware attached to it. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your frame to arrive.

Canvas Gallery Wrap - If you prefer a frameless look, order your map on stretched canvas, which offers a bit more depth and texture. We use archival canvas, gallery-wrapped and varnished, stretched around a 1.5-inch-thick wood frame.

Hydrology dreams come true

Our son is a water resources engineer, and we got the North America blue map for him for Christmas. Now I want one too! We live in Oregon, and you do make state maps, but it seemed foolish to have the rivers stop just because the sign said “Entering Washington.” The map is hydrology and geology and no politics. And the quality of the mapping and the paper are just elegant.

Beautiful Map!

I first saw this map on the wall at REI and immediately was taken in. My husband worked for the USGS and remembered seeing this map in the office of the Chief Hydrologist. The map is beautifully detailed and professionally printed and framed. It took a bit longer to receive than I had anticipated but was totally worth the wait. Thank you!

A Gift for My Husband

My husband spotted this map at our local REI and immediately fell in love with it. I bought it for him for Christmas and he was thrilled. it’s a beautiful image and looks great in our lake house.

Useful Art

I gave this as a gift for my brother, and my dad told my brother "that he needs to put a bench in front of it it" as an art gallery might with its cornerstone paintings but also because its something someone can explore for hours. Needless to say, it's well designed and eye catching but also perfect for the person who wants to understand one of the key mechanisms behind civilization as major towns and cities are almost always connected to water. Providing context about our current geography, history, and reality. After a lot of research, i found this one to be the right price for the right person, and if you made it as far as the reviews i assume that you are shopping for one of them.
