Description

Made from combining 9 historic USGS topographic maps together with modern elevation data, our Acadia Relief map will captivate you with its endless details that appear to pop off the paper, adding depth and dimension to the vintage maps.

We selected maps from different years throughout the early 1900s that were digitally patched together, creating a composite that encompasses the entire park. Once merged, a mosaic of the topographic maps was formed from the different colors and styles of the individual maps. The map comes to life with the addition of hillshading derived from advanced elevation data that gives the landscape a 3-dimensional appearance. Lastly, we overlaid the current boundary of the park in red, which oftentimes differ from the older versions of the park borders that appear on the vintage USGS maps used.

Not What You Might Expect

The item I ordered was delivered quickly. It was packaged carefully and exactly as advertised. After seeing the poster I chose to ask to return it. Clear and easy instructions to do so were sent promptly by email. I followed those instructions and quickly was notified I would receive a complete refund. I was responsible for paying the return postage and felt this was completely fair. I could not be more satisfied with the service and would not hesitate to do business with this company in the future.

Good - but different than what I expected

I've been looking for topographical relief maps and was excited to shop online at Muir Way. I was expecting the map to be 3D and although it has a 3D appearance, I was a little disappointed that it is a flat 2D map.

Doesn't "encompass the entire park" as described

Not to burst your bubble (I plan on buying this!) but this doesn't show the entire park, like the description says. Anyone who's familiar with Acadia will immediately notice this only shows mount desert island and totally leaves out the schoodic peninsula and isle au haut - both significant portions of the park. Oh, well. Still looks cool, but would be nice to have those too!

Like Being There

This piece of art, which also happens to be a composite of several maps, is astounding to see in person. The depth produced by the elevation relief shadows will make you swear this is a 3-D image. We look forward to enjoying this piece for years to come!
