In 1932, four independent regional surveys came together to map the geology of the entire United States in remarkable topographic detail — this Northwest quadrant among them. It stretches from the Rocky Mountains and the Cascade Range across the Columbia Plateau and into the northern Great Plains, terrain built by ancient volcanic activity and the same ice-age glaciers that carved much of the region's landscape.
We georeferenced the original 1932 survey and added shaded relief using modern digital elevation data, bringing the Northwest's mountains, plateaus, and plains into convincing three-dimensional depth. The shading is printed flat on the paper — not raised or textured — so it frames like any fine art print.

A note on legibility: this map preserves the original 1932 lettering, so some place names are small, and text beneath the darkest shading can be hard to read. Our largest size shows the clearest detail.
