In 1916, the University of Texas's Bureau of Economic Geology and Technology published this geological map of Texas, prepared by geologist Johan August Udden together with C.L. Baker and Emil Bose. Udden had joined the university's Mineral Survey in 1904 and would go on to direct the Bureau; his analysis of well cuttings helped identify the oil and potash deposits that were reshaping the state's economy in the years around this map's publication.
We georeferenced the original 1916 survey and applied modern digital elevation data to add true shaded relief to Texas's landscape. The shading is printed flat on the paper — not raised or textured — so it frames and hangs like any fine art print.

Note on legibility: text on the original map is small and can be difficult to read given the map's age. In areas where the relief shading is darkest, the underlying labels are not legible. We recommend the largest available size for the best detail.

I love this map. I first saw this in a rock and souvenir shop in Llano, Texas. (Don't know if it was an original or a reprint.) They wouldn't sell it. I googled it. Couldn't find it anywhere. Then I saw your ad on Facebook about a year later. I was exactly what I wanted. High quality and detailed. I will frame it.
You could probably sell a LOT of these maps in Llano. The red center of the map, which looks like a bullseye, represents a geological anomaly known as the Llano Uplift. This, of course, gives rise to the quite unusual terrain around Llano. And that terrain has led to a lot of tourist activity.
