Description

In 1922, Baja California was still a single federal territory stretching the length of the peninsula — it wouldn't split into the separate territories of Baja California Norte and Baja California Sur until 1931, and neither achieved full Mexican statehood until decades later, in 1952 and 1974 respectively. This map dates to the early years of post-revolutionary Mexico, just two years after the armed phase of the Mexican Revolution came to a close in 1920.

We georeferenced the original 1922 survey and applied modern digital elevation data to add true shaded relief to the Baja peninsula's mountainous spine and coastline. The shading is printed flat on the paper — not raised or textured — so it frames and hangs like any fine art print.

Available with or without our signature cloud overlay for a more atmospheric effect, and in your choice of black frame, walnut frame, or unframed.

Note on legibility: text on the original map is small and can be difficult to read given the map's age. In areas where the relief shading is darkest, the underlying labels are not legible. We recommend the largest available size for the best detail.

American Hardwood Frames

We use real Walnut for our frames, unlike the lesser quality veneer you will typically find elsewhere. With beautiful hardwood grain, each is handmade to order at a professional frame shop.

  • 7/8 inch face and 1 1/2 inch depth
  • Acrylite glazing (more clear than glass)
  • Acid-free backing paper
  • Hanging wire installed

Printed flat, shadows so real you'll want to touch them

Shaded relief built by georeferencing hundreds of points against modern USGS elevation data

Historic maps with terrain accurately depicted with USGS data. Every peak and valley beautifully rendered.

A digital light source casts the shadows, a 3D look on flat paper

The terrain appears to have real depth even though the paper is flat.

Prints completely flat, so it works with traditional framing.

Baja California

I loved the map.

Just one comment the package arrived dented and affected the map a bit . I am sure once it is framed it will sort out.

Just be aware that packages should be sturdier.

The Baja California Peninsula

I did the 2K Road trip in 11/2021and this map will always remind me of that great adventure driving the Peninsula from North to South. It's my metal I earned!

A bragging right if someone asks about it. Can't wait to display it !!!
