The Expedition Citroen Centre-Asie Map documents one of history's most brilliant marketing campaigns turned legendary adventure. André Citroën knew that proving his automobiles could conquer the world's most impossible terrain would sell more cars than any traditional advertisement. He commissioned extraordinary expeditions to remote places, turning vehicle testing into global spectacle. The Centre-Asie expedition of 1932 became a masterpiece of automotive marketing. Led by explorers Georges-Marie Haardt and Louis Audouin Dubreuil, this expedition departed from Beirut in April 1932 and became the first automobile journey through the Himalayas. They reached 13,806 feet at the Burzil Pass in what is now northern Pakistan, setting a world altitude record for automobiles.

Haardt and Dubreuil had previously completed the first automobile crossing of the Sahara Desert and driven from Algeria to Cape Town, South Africa which were also marketing campaigns for Citroën. The Centre-Asie expedition proved the most impressive of their three journeys. Our reproduction captures this historic route and was carefully remastered from a digital scan of the original 1933 map. All route details and elevation markings remain intact.
