Description

Originally published in the 1884 edition of the "The Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States", this reproduction print of the Big-Mouthed Black Bass, or Oswego Bass, was drawn by H.L. Todd. It was part of the first book in a multi-volume series produced by George Brown Goode, the famed ichthyologist (fish scientist), Smithsonian museum administrator, and U.S. Fish Commissioner. He managed a large staff of scientists, researchers, and clerical employees to produce this monumental work on American Fisheries.  We are happy to make available the amazingly detailed drawings included in the first volume of the series as reproduction prints.

Large and Small Mouth Bass prints

My dad and I are fishing partners. When we’re off work, we drive around the Ozarks, putting-in at streams, creeks and rivers - anyplace a kayak can float - searching for large-mouth and small-mouth bass. Some days we slay them and other times they out-smart us, but we always enjoy sharing the experience. My dad and my grandfather did the same many years ago.

We practice catch and release and always take plenty of photos, but I liked the idea of having these prints as something he could hang on the wall and admire - particularly during the winter months when we can't get out as often as we’d like. The prints are fantastic, done on quality paper - about the size of standard printer paper - and look great in a rustic wood frame. The prints arrived promptly and well-protected, and my receipt was signed with a thank you note (which is a small gesture, but the personal touch is appreciated).

Quality product, cool site, keep up the good work!

All that I hoped it would be

I put this on the wall next to a picture of my grandfather holding up a bass. It’s my favorite area of the living room. I can’t help but to stop and look at the intricate details of my favorite fish. 10/10 will certainly purchase another fish print.

Amazing!

This is the perfect addition to the lake house gallery wall. Lots of bass fishing goes on here and this vintage print is so fun to look at. The detail is amazing
