United States of America Hydrological Map

Water is literally the lifeblood of any country. If you’re drawn to water, you know that how and where it flows tells the story of a place. Our USA Hydrological Map shows in fascinating detail how the country’s rivers and streams flow and interconnect, merge and diverge, carrying life to the land. The flow of water also has an inherent aesthetic elegance that our map captures beautifully.

It’s all in the details. Our map depicts every river in the country—even intermittent streams—and every body of water with a diameter greater than 6 miles. For an extra aesthetic touch, we apply a method called the Strahler Stream Order to show the hierarchy of streams as they flow from their source—rivers are shown thicker as they acquire the flow of tributaries. We think it enhances a sense of the interconnectedness of our waterways.

In our Hydrology Series, you’ll not only find your favorite rivers and lakes, but you’ll also be able to trace their origins and outflow and appreciate the beauty of their connections.

The Black and Blue colors are 2nd Edition prints.
The Green color is 1st Edition prints.

  • Made in the USA

We consider our maps to be works of art, so we print and frame them accordingly. We offer two choices of print surfaces: fine-art archival paper and stretched canvas.

Every map is custom printed. We have no inventory. Only when we receive your order do we produce your print on our 12-color giclée printer, using top-quality archival inks that will never fade.

Fine Art Paper (Does not include frame)-Our archival paper is museum-quality, 100% cotton, acid-free, and certified to last 100 years. This assures sharp details, true colors, and exceptional durability. Order your maps on archival paper if you intend to frame them.

Frame-Add a thin wood frame to your order and your Fine Art Paper print will come mounted.Click here to order

Canvas Gallery Wrap-If you prefer a frameless look, order your map on stretched canvas, which offers a bit more depth and texture. We use archival canvas, gallery-wrapped and varnished, stretched onto a 1.5-inch-thick wood frame.

hydrological map for a forest ranger

saw one in REI on the wall and knew that my uncle who has studied the watershed in the USA with the Forest Rangers and after retirement as a consultant, would love it. Very fine paper and looks very eloquent. I think my uncle will love it.

    U.s. hydrological map

The print and paper quality were very good. When I ordered it was not clear that the print did not come with a frame although I see that that description has been updated to be more clear..

    Beautiful, High-Quality Prints

The quality of the print creates a level of detail that really gives the figure-ground image so much depth and beauty. You could stand a look at the hydrological map of the United States for hours and continuously find something new. Truly beautiful images.

    Beautiful but arrived damaged

I had seen this map in a couple places and sought it out online - and it’s just as beautiful and detailed in person as it is on the Muir Way website. I was disappointed, however, when the cardboard cylinder that the map came shipped in arrived bent up and damaged in a couple places. Unfortunately this meant that my poster was bent and slightly scraped in a couple places, as well. I think that this has much more to do with USPS’s handling than Muir Way’s - but a sturdier vehicle than cardboard for shipping could be considered.
