Atlantic Tom Cod

Originally published in the 1884 edition of the "The Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States", this reproduction print of the Atlantic Tom Cod was drawn by H.L. Todd. It was part of the first book in a multi-volume series produced by George Brown Goode, the famed ichthyologist (fish scientist), Smithsonian museum administrator, and U.S. Fish Commissioner. He managed a large staff of scientists, researchers, and clerical employees to produce this monumental work on American Fisheries.  We are happy to make available the amazingly detailed drawings included in the first volume of the series as reproduction prints.

Nice vintage print

I liked the idea of a fish print because my advisor and I wrote a book chapter on borrowing fish growth models (Von Bertalanffy) to human development research. I thought it would be cool to have this piece of art as a reminder of the energy reverberating in the interdisciplinary research work. The print was nice (teh paper is a little bit thinner than I expected but considering it is vintage, I totally understand) and I love the vintage flavor of the fish!
